Experts,

I'm getting strong front wheels vibrations when braking - feels kind of like ABS pulsations, but stronger and on any surface - always and only when braking. 120,000 miles. I've done all the obvious things - new rotors, new brake pads, new tires, balancing on the best machine (Hunter 9000), alignment check by one of the best shops in the area - none has made any difference. There appears to be no wheel bearing noticeable play and no suspension play - but I can not guarantee those.

Has anyone got similar symptoms fixed and how?

thanks

You can tell if the bushing is blown just by looking at it. If its OEM you will see Silicon oozing out of it.

You can visually inspect for dry cracks and leaks; in my case, thick jelly like oil hanging on the bushing. So I replaced the bushing.

I don't know if this would help, but you can also replace the sway bar links in case they are in bad shape. I recently replaced them and found the ball joins were really loose and the bushings were hard as pebbles.

Looking more into it, in 2002 the suspension design has changed and I don't see the same parts - what could it be in the 2002 design?

thanks

:) fixed the spelling now, something also could be breaking while braking, but I've meant braking. Those two/too/to/2 do sound the same, don't they?

Your vibration while braking really sounds like a warped rotor/hub problem. When you had new rotors installed, did the tech actually measure runout after installing them? Take it to a expert tech and have them measure total runout on all 4 rotors, should be inexpensive.

That's exactly what I thought at first as well. I replaced the rotors myself and after that used a dial to check the runout - it was within the specs. I could take it to a real expert to check as well, but seeing exactly the same vibrations with 2 sets of rotors makes me think it could be something else.

Comparing to pre-2002 designs, those parts appear to serve the role of the tension rods mentioned above:

but that's only a wild guess....

Brake pulsations are not uncommon with the 2002 models. Some have indicated that this is due to the thin wall disks used that year.

From experience, may I suggest you un-mount the wheel and verify the disk has some free play under the retaining clips. Then re-mount wheels and torque down the lug nuts as follows; tighten all nuts down finger tight, then using a torque wrench tighten the lugs nuts down to 30 ft-lbs tightening in a star pattern. Finally, increase the torque setting to the final value specified in the owner's manual again in that star pattern.

Can't hurt and may solve your problem.

I have the same f50 Cima. 2002.

I see fluid oozing out of my bushings on the control arms. You know where to buy these?

thanks,

Did you just do the Front brakes?

You need to replace the rear pads and rotors as well.

djwarner - I'll re-install the wheels when the weather gets nicer and see if it helps. xerexabante - I only replaced the front rotors/pads - how would the rear rotors cause the front vibrations? thx
