I have a question for everyone I own a 2002 Q45 with 110k. There is a Valvoline Quick Stop in walking distance from my house so I figured I would give them a shot. Anyway when I use their synthetic dura blend a few months ago I can smell the oil as if it is burning and coming through my vents when the heat is on and when I return home from work and walk around it while its parked it has a oil burning smell. There are no oil drip marks on the drive way. I took it to my Infiniti dealer during their Ivaluation special where they look over the entire car and the dealer saw no leaks. I switched to the max life which is also a synthetic and now there is no smell present at all. Anyone have any similar issues like this?

Once it happened when it was over fill with oil. It got better after adjustment made the following oil change, but still smell a little. Hope it is not due to some damage done.

Assuming the 2002-2006 Q45 still uses a spin on oil filter, Make sure to remove the gasket if its stuck on the filter plate (Where the filter screws onto the engine). If you forget and put the new filter on with a double gasket oil will leak out.

If it continues the more likely cause would be the valve cover gaskets leaking, now that the cars are 10 years old there's a good chance that seals will start to fail more often...

The type of oil you use should have very little affect on leaks.
