Well, I've been browsing for quite a while and finally need to get my feet wet with a post.

Here's the problem...car was rear-ended pretty hard, breaking the passenger side tail light, among other things.

Both the body shop I have been dealing with, and the Infiniti parts people, swear that my tail lights were aftermarket, since they are not able to locate any with a yellow lens similar to mine. They've given me one with a blue lens, and one with a clear lens, but come up with nothing when trying to locate a yellow lens.

I've been given all sorts of explanations, including:
1) amber bulb in the light makes the lens "look" yellow, but it's really clear
2) someone tinted the lens with yellow tint
3) my yellow lens is a sign of an aftermarket tail light

I am the second owner of the car, a relative was the first owner, and I am positive that these are the OEM tail lights.

I'm going to try to include some pics of the lights in questions. If anyone can either confirm that my driver side tail light with the yellow lens is an OEM light, provide a part number, or better yet...if anyone knows where a passenger side tail light with a yellow circular lens is for sale, please reply and help me get the car back in shape, I would be very appreciative!

In the following pics, OEM driver side tail light with yellow lens is on left and top.
Replacement tail light with clear lens is on right and bottom.

Welcome to Nico.

Sorry to hear about the accident.

There are 6 different part numbers for each complete tail light. So that makes 12 part numbers.

The tail lights are also sold without the bulb socket and trim and each one of those light assemblies has 6 part numbers. So that's another 12 part numbers.

Here are all 24 part numbers:

Specification abbreviations:

* = OPTION
S= SEDAN
2WD = 2 WHEEL DRIVE
HICAS = HICAS(SUPER HICAS) TYPE SUSPENSION
IRS = IRS(MULTI LINK)TYPE SUSPENSION

Parts beginning with 26554- are the RH lens
Parts beginning with 26559- are the LH lens

Parts beginning with 26550- are complete RH Assemblies
Parts beginning with 26555- are complete LH Assemblies

To answer your question, the Sport Model comes with a blueish tint on the circular part of the lens (backup light). All other models come with chrome circular part. From the looks of it your original is bluish and is faded?? Sport models come with a Sport mode suspension which has a switch by the left side of the lower part of gauges, and has blueish tint on the circular part of tail light, and 18inch rims.

I hope this answers some of your problems

I've never seen the yellow tint lens before. It might be possible that it is a Japanese part that the original owner installed as they have different options and parts that are not available for the North American market, ie pop-up screen with the DVD player mounted where the clock would be.

Thanks to everyone who has replied!

@lino - Thank you for the breakdown on the part numbers. Using that information, I was able to speak with a parts rep at a dealership in another city who is going to order ALL of the applicable lights. They said they will take a little bit of a loss on the return costs, but wanted to try everything possible to make sure we've exhausted every avenue tracking down the part.

@xeraxabante - Whoops, I should have pointed out that this is, indeed, a Sport Package. Actually, I was told that the car was unique when I purchased it. It's some combination of the Premium and Sport package with everything except the navigation setup.

@marksport - Yikes, I hope it's not some JDM piece which found its way onto a floor model in Kentucky! I'm guessing that would make it even more difficult, if not impossible, to locate.

Fingers crossed, when all of the lights arrive next week, hopefully one of them has a yellow lens and I'll be able to make a celebratory post here.

Hope you get the right one this time. If you provide your VIN to a dealer, the software they use will determine the correct part number that's applicable to you car. If you want, I can check it for you too.

This is one option I've been looking for the parts for quite a long time, rare and pricey since it is only available in Japan. Foot pass-thru in conjuction with the rear reclining seats.

After looking at my tail lights, seems to me that it looks like what you originally have. The Sport model back up light has a tint on it. Do not go for what they are telling you, have them get you for a sport model. As far as i can remember from having the car or a while now, it was more bluish color, now looks close to what you have.

Well, my quest to locate a right rear tail light with a yellow lens has come to an unsuccessful end.

Due to pressure from the body shop, and the claims rep who is approving my repairs, I've had to settle for two new lights with blue lenses.

Just to reiterate, though...the lights came from the factory with the yellow lens. It's not a faded blue that looks yellow or anything like that. In support of that fact, I have been able to find numerous used tail lights with the yellow lens on the internet, unfortunately they have all been driver side lights.

The best explanation I've received was from Infiniti of Tampa. Their explanation, which they admitted was only a guess, was that the yellow lens was only offered on the '02. Between production and today, the vendor who supplies the tail lights has either changed, or simply discontinued the yellow lens variety, leaving no option but clear or blue lenses for anyone who needs a replacement.

So, to sum up, if you're looking for a replacement tail light for an 02 Q45 with a yellow lens on the back up indicator, don't even waste your time ordering the listed part numbers from the dealership...none of them have the yellow lens. You're either going to need to locate a used tail light, or swap both lights for clear or blue.

Thanks to all who have commented and helped!

As far as I'm concerned, two new ones are better than one shiny new one and one old one anyhow... Thanks for updating us in case anyone else ever runs into this issue.

Certainly!

The blue lenses are nowhere near as pronounced as the yellows were, but they're growing on me. The tail lights match the headlights now, too.

More on the headlights in a sec, though.

The headlights had some damage when I bought the car. I'm told it was UV damage combined with tree sap which had been hastily scraped off. I've been meaning to fix them and figured the new tail lights gave me the perfect excuse.

After using the 3M kit pictured, I finished them off with Meguiar's Plastix. Hope someone finds this useful, I'm very pleased with the results.

Thanks for the pics. It's always nice to see things clearly. The tail lights look new ;), and the headlights look great. What an improvement! I can't believe how nice they turned out. I can understand why you're so pleased with the results. Well done. How long did it take you to do?

If you haven't already read it, check out this thread:
02-q45-hid-ballast-question-suggestions ... 62841.html

They appear on eBay from time to time. There are some helpful links in the thread above.

@Lino - Thanks for the reply, sorry I overlooked it! The headlight refinish took about 45 minutes. They are still looking great, I just hit 'em with some Plastix every time I detail.
