Greeting to all,

I own a 2002 Q45 Sport with 45K miles, and just today the 'supplemental restraint icon' is flashing? I do not want to bring it an Infiniti dealer (for obvious reasons) and was wondering how to reset the light, if possible?

I've disconnected the positive battery for approximately 10 minutes, but the icon is still flashing?

Is there a way to reset the light or do I need to make an appointment with Infiniti?

Cool,LongLiveTitus

Don't know why you would want to avoid the dealer unless it is a known bad one.

Don't know why you wouldn't study the FSM either.

Your answer will be in the section dealing with the SRS.

I'm new to the FSM and it's a little overwhelming to say the least, where do you suggest I start looking? It's like looking for a needle in a haystack?

It definitely can feel that way.Spend some time glancing through it and you'll get used to it's arrangement and find yourself finding answers fast in no time. I can't tell you how much time I've spent poring over the service manuals for my cars...it's second nature to me now.

you need to know how to read the code, There is a Self diagnosis on the SRS light. Als o there is a TSB on the F50 on the air bag. You should be under warranty, take it to the dealer ASAP.

Thanks for the tip xerexabante!

I called my nearest Infiniti dealer and unfortunately, I am a few months short of the warranty..damm shame.I will try the self diagnosis regarding my SRS flashing (airbag) icon, and hopefully I find some good news?

Congrads, now that you are out of warranty be sure you save $2-3,000 per year to spend on repairs and mainteances.Should be time for 4 new shocks and a starter soon.

Airbags, self retracting seat belts, etc can be tricky be very careful in following diagnostic proceedures...............be slow and careful.

Starter? Already? On a 2002? With only 45,000 miles? What did nissan do, use G.M. starters?

7 years is 7 years and the warranty is 6 years.

Spend some days studying the new computer accountant software used in designing the new 4.5. Easy to change though only takes <2 hours and the starter is back on the passengerside vs Q41.

My starter started grinding at 50,000 miles. Had it replaced under aferrmarket warranty. Cost me $100 and the warranty company $475 for a total of $575. Tech said it was a pain in the ***. Took around 3 hours to replace. He had to use the old nose cap off the old one to make it fit but was supposed to be a new oem starter. Not sure if it was though.

Just changed one yesterday they are identical perfect fit took 1.5 hours. Watch out for aftermarket warranty they usually require clone parts not oem.

As I keep reminding the peak of the Q45 mechanical design was mid 90's. The Cima's were just not deigned to earlier standards to maintain the $50k selling price.

Watch out for cat failure, the units are very fragle and can be destroyed from less than the best gasoline and failure to keep O2 sensors and spark plugs fresh.

Back to Air Bags, if your Insurance Policy gives you a discount for air bags and you knowingly drive without them functioning. You could be deemed as comitting insurance fraud if you have an accident and the medical portion is invoked.

The flashing light and the signal to it [stored forever in air bag computer] are proof that you knew prior to accident and drove with reckless disregard for safety of passengers.
