From what I know, the 2002 Q45 is prewired and has a cellphone antenna embedded in the rear window.

A special integrated cradle unit was produced by cellport™ for Infitiniti and works with the voice activation system in the Q45. It also display the caller id on the in dash monitor.

The PROBLEM is, this system was to be out in March, and it never came out. I called cell-port and they have the prototypes done but they haven't heard anything from Infiniti they say.

Do you have any info on this and if their really is an integrated antenna?

More info here:

"The system has a docking station that can accommodate any make or model of mobile phone through specific adapters. It has also been integrated into a voice-activation cell phone system in the Q45 that was developed by Visteon Corp. in Dearborn. Infiniti will make the system available in March as a factory-installed feature on the 2002 Q45. Current Q45 owners will be able to buy the systems and have them installed at Infiniti dealerships. "Voice-activated, hands-free phone operation has been a much-requested addition to the Q45," said Mark McNabb, vice-president and general manager of Nissan's Infiniti Division. Because driver distraction has been linked to mobile phone use, interest in hands-free cell phone technology has grown. In June, New York became the first state to ban motorists from using cell phones while driving. Last month, the city of Miami and surrounding Dade County also banned using the devices while driving except with a headset or other hands-free equipment."

I don't think the "it's OK if it's hands free!!!" thing will last long in areas legislating against driving with cell phones.

Most cars can be driven with two fingers. It's the concentration issue that's the problem. I use my cell phone in the car for quick conversations, but not discussions. I've missed too many exits and scared too many pedestrians when I start yacking.

My main gripe with phone queens is that they drive too slow, usually in the left lane.

Sorry... can't help with integrated phone issue!!

I have seen this thread over at Fresh Alloy, but one thing I don't get is why anyone would want to be tied into a particular cellular technology, even if it integrates with the 3rd generation Q45's excellent voice technology. Cellular technology changes fundamentally several times over the life of such a vehicle, even if you are a lease queen. Just ask all those people with integrated analog phones they cannot remove from the car and carry it with them.

I need fewer phone numbers and messaging systems to check, not more. That's why I ditched the home phone lines.

Maxnix,That's the whole point of the cellport system. It's cell phone independant, so you use your EXISTING phone.

The base unit is wired into the car then there are phone specific cradles which plug in for specific phones. Really slick technology which removes the upgrade problems typical with in car phones.

I had the same argument, until I saw the Cell Port!

Yeah, well, I remember the Motorola V60 was out for almost a year before they had a data cable to synchronize one's contact information (400 contacts). They expected you to enter the information for each with the phone keyboard. Nuts!

I don't think paying 1/3 of the cost of the new phone for a proprietary connector everytime I change phones is an attractive option for me.

Seems like Cellport could sell these interfaces independently unless contractually restricted.

That is the beauty with this system. I have spokeen with them before and they do have a V60 adapter. The adapters aren't expensive since they just plug into the cradle. I think the cradle system runs about $300 and will work with any phone.

Previous systems, like the one in my past S class was $1,200. It was a great system but you couldn't upgrade the phone and it was analog. By the time I sold the car, no sevice providers even offered analog only service anymore. That was a waste, but nice while it worked.

I found the solution to that.... I just have my home phone permanently forwarded to my cell phone. Rings 4 times at home, then rings cell. If cell is off, jumps into voicemail immediately, so it's transparent.

Works like a charm.... only give out my home number, one voicemail to check, and get a log of missed calls on caller id at home if cell is off.

Plus a phone in the bathroom! :ylsuper

It was costing me over $100 dollars/month for two lines with one having all the features that my cell phone has and to avoid telemarketers. Now I have five less numbers to remember and one less messaging system to check. And I miss fewer calls, unless I want to miss them.

I found that using my home phone as a fax line only for incoming calls works very well... I have free incoming calls on my cell and had the same number since 1999 so everyone knows just to call me there. The fax picks up on the first ring, so I guess the telemarketers are getting the hint :)

I guess this post is a bit off topic, but it's interesting to see how different people deal with the ever-growing electronic leashes that were supposed to be conveniences.

i tried giving up a hard line at home in exchange for the cellular land, but one thing happened or didn't happen. the internet. i wasn't going to splurge for the cable modem so i ended up just getting a digital phone line through Insight.

thread is now no longer hijacked.

Yep, avoiding telemarketers is a good reason to ditch the home phone. But I've been successful in not getting the calls in the first place.

If you've had the same number for a long time, it's probably hopeless. But for future reference....

1) call the 3 credit agencies and tell them not to sell your information to marketers. i did that and lots of calls stopped, plus my mailbox dried up (used to be full of credit card offers). if they don't know your credit profile, they can't offer you anything!!

2) consider every company you do business with the enemy. unless specifically told not to, they will sell your personal information.

3) only donate to charities if you can do so anonymously. they make big money selling their lists of donors. plus, i think better to give lots of money to a few local charities rather than send money to a bunch of national organizations.

4) if your state has a no call list, sign up for it. might help.

The only marketing calls I get now are automated ones... those are annoying (esp. when the computer leaves a voicemail), but infrequent.

I have a listed number, but don't see that being a big source of calls. Marketing is about information, and a name and phone number are not enough information to market a product or service.

You do have some control. Use it!!!

(I'm not a homeowner, so that helps... I'm sure mortgage companies are the #1 enemy in selling information).

I reposted the above in the General Chat forum. Probably better discussed there.
