Hi,I have owned a 95 Q45 for 4 years now. So far I am very happy with the results. I bough my car with 96k on it and it has now 156k on it. Still runs good. I had kept up with regular maintainence and the car has not given me any major problem.s On average I had spent about $1500 per year on the car. I don't drive it hard and in my experience its a very reliable car if you keep up with recommended maintainence.I am planning to buy a 2002 Q45 next year. I am a little paranoid as 2002 is the first year of new model and usually there are many bugs in first few years. Do you have any experience with 2002 Q. How much should I expect in yearly maintainence?Regards,Wasim.

No experience, but personally, I would look at a 2003 or 2004 model for the myriad improvements. That being said, the people I knew that had 2002 loved them. None of them had an earlier Q45, though. I have read accounts of a few G50 owners who rather wished they had kept the G50 rather than spend the money for the F50.

IMO if your happy with what you got you might just keep it..... There were a few TSBs that will make the 02 Q as good as the later ones..... if you can prove that the TSBs were done via records than that may be the way to go...

The F50 is showing tremendous value on the used car market... One could pick one up with 60k and still have it verified thru infiniti to 100k

2003 had revised rear gearset to get closer to advertised acceleration numbers{still couldnt meet them} 340hp number is likely overinflated.

I am strongly disagree. The 340hp is not likely overinflated. The gearing is awfully high in the 2002 when compared to other cars (especially the 1st gear). The 2002 reaches 57 mph at the end of 1st gear while the 540i reaches 62, the S-Type 4.0 reaches 61, and the E430 reaches 59 at the end of their 2nd gears. With that, it still managed 6.0 seconds 0-60. I don't see why the 2003 shouldn't be faster with the 13.4% improvement from the final drive ratio (3.133 vs 2.76x). The 2003 should meet or beat the advertised acceleration number of 5.9 seconds 0-60 mph.

look at the disclaimer on infiniti website TELLING you the engine will not measure 340hp using current SAE testing method{no cheating allowed as in past to cheat the test}lexus retested the ls430 hp dropped from 290 to 278-infiniti refuses to retest and publish correct number, choosing to hide behind an asterick and small print on their advertisements- I cant remember a single magazine test of 2002-2006 q that has matched their 5.9 second claim!I bet true hp is closer to 310-315hp MAX

Just took delivery of a 2002 last week -Sage Green, Beige interior 32K. Traded in my 1995 Q45t that I had owned almost since new. The new Q has a more comfortable highway cruiser feel about it. Very quiet while it shifts through the gears. Feels faster. The interior of the new Q is not of the same quality as the 95 Q which always reminded me of my 91 300Z.Exterior fit, finish and paint looks really good. If cared for, this car should look good for the next 5 to 7 years.I love that there are so few of them on the road especially here in Canada. I have told my kids I will pay them $10 for everyone they spot and I don't expect to pay!Overall, after a week of driving and a day of polishing I am starting to appreciate the new styling and in time will love the car.I will post a better picture when it stops snowing and I can get the car out of the garage.

Nope it is the electronics and a slew of differences not visible to the eye. 2004 even had some major changes.

Great chice, and yes they are quicker from a standing start (5 gears).

About the same on the highway in a passing situation.

I was just noticing the arc where the hip bolters angle away from the shoulder pad on the seatback in the G50. Such a beautiful and functional detail.

2006q also had the diff ratio changed again, this time in the wrong direction for acceleration! although transmission gears lowered to compensate- why cant they get it right from the getgo? this is at the least 3 gear/transmission ratio changes to this series q in its 5 model year run.

Thank guys,

What about the reliability of 97-01 Q45. I have heard that they are as reliable as LS400.

This might be better discussed in a new thread. Basically, its rock-solid reliable. Electronic suspension can be expensive to replace. Thats about it.

Remember that the G50 Q is just as reliable as the LS400!!!!!! Tech made a post last year that over 15ish years it cost actually slightly more to maintain the LS400 than his Q which he drives much harder than the owner with the LS400
