Hi,I have to add a quat to my car but I dont know what weight and brand is currently in the car. Recommended weight is 20 50 or 10 40.

If I add a quat that is different weight and brand than existing oil, will it cause any problem?

Currently car has regular oil, I have 10 40 sythetic blend at home. Can I addi sythetic blend to regular of same or different weight?Regards,Wasim.

Just add the same weight, the kind you add isnt really a big deal it will mix fine.

I would bet that its 5w30 in the car right now.

what wes said is good advise. but if I had just bought a car and it was low a quart, I would go ahead and change the oil and filter. Get a good fresh start.

I am trying to get an appointment for oil change but can't get one till next week. I am going to travel on weekend and dont want to travel with low oil.

Since I dont know what weight and brand is in the car, is topping up with 10w40 syntec blend oil better then running on low oil?

Best to match brand as additives may not be nice. Grab the right oil and M1 filter and get it done by someone who will do it right.
