2002 Pathfinder Whining sound from rear end

I was wondering if anyone has had this problem. When I hit the gas I hear a whining type sound from the rear. It happens around town and on the highway. I have about 6 months left on the powertrain warranty and I am trying to figure out what it is before I take it in for something stupid and it cost me 100 bucks for diagnosis. Thanks

For starters check the level of the fluid in the rear diff.....while you are at it, drain it & put some fresh fluid in there....

Took it to nissan today and they are gonna put a whole new rear end in for me under warranty.
