Hey everybody,

I have a 2002 Pathfinder that I want to install a sunroof into from another Pathfinder or QX4. Has anyone here done this, by any chance? Would anyone know if the wiring for it would be there in the non-sunroof equipped Pathfinder? Is any of the metal work under the headliner present? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

For starters the over head console would house the sun roof wiring / switch... Second no i didnt see any wiring in mine when i was in there thinking of doing the same thing. Also there are cross beams under the headliner that may be in the way for the sun roof itself, They may have been placed in different places when the sunroof model was being built. I'm sure others will chime in also welcome aboard :)

Thanks! I'm seriously considering it, but wondering if it's actually feasible. I have a qx4 donor, but really want to keep the pathfinder since its frame is in much better shape, and it's manual.

I upgraded my overhead console a few years ago.
Took out the small console with just the lights in it, and installed a console (from a wrecker) that had the compass, temp gauge, moon roof switches etc.
I can tell you 100% for sure that there was no existing wiring for any of that stuff.
To make it work, I had to remove the wiring harness from the donor vehicle, run it up from under the dash, up inside the "A" pillar, and under the liner to the new console. I also had to install a temp sensor under the hood.
It was time consuming, but worth it in the end.
I don't know about the roof structure though. Maybe someone else can answer that one.

Thanks for all the info! This actually leads me to another question that you kind of answered, but I'll pose it anyway: how similar are the qx4 and pathfinder wiring harnesses? Would any of the wiring for the extra features in the qx4 be present in the pathfinder if it wasn't equipped with those features? I.e., is anything plug and play?

well the only real way to see is to take a peek under the headliner and compare the apples to the oranges. See what you come up with. As long as the connectors are the same you can always pin out the wires to go where its needed.

Sounds like a plan. First, the qx4 will be getting its strut tower rust recall taken care of, then I'll decide which car to pillage.

Does anyone happen to know how different the 4WD systems are between the QX4 and Pathfinder?

My Pathfinder has part-time 4WD with a manual transfer case, whereas my QX4 has all-mode 4WD, with an electronic knob on the console to actuate it instead of the lever from the transfer case. I have decided to swap transmissions between the two cars, since it looks to be a lot easier than swapping all the features I wanted to have in the Pathfinder. Thus, I'll be taking the manual transmission out of the Pathfinder and putting it into the QX4, and I'm wondering if the driveshafts would be different lengths due to the different transfer cases, as well as potentially having different axle ratios between the two cars, and of course wiring and control modules for the transfer cases (along with the ECU, which I will also swap).

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
