Hello Everyone, I'm new to the post and can use some help. My 2002 4x4 Pathy has the shakes at speeds between 5-25 mph. I took it to the dealer and they said it needed a new passenger side rear bank O2 sensor & an ECU reset. They wanted $600 so I paid the $120 diagnostic fee and replaced the O2 sensor and reset the ECU myself this morning. Unfortunately I still have the shaking. I did a test and turned off the engine and drifted and the shaking stopped so I'm positive it's not the wheel balance or u-joint related. I'm so frustrated with the dealer and fear they'll ask for another $120 to diagnose the issue. Anyone have any ideas what the shaking could be related too? I look forward to hearing from those with more experience.

Welcome to NICO.

The rear oxygen sensors have absolutely zero impact on the operation and driveability of our vehicles. I think they just wanted your money.

Does it shake in both 2WD and 4WD? Check the rear trailing arm bushings - they may be worn.

Hello Towncivilian,

thanks for the welcome and response to my request. It shakes in both 2 & 4 WD. I will check out the rear trailing arms tomorrow. I also plan to call the dealership to see how they respond to their error in diagnosing the issue. I am so glad I didn't give them the $600 to later find out it didn't solve the problem.

Is / was your Check Engine Light on? If so, what are the diagnostic codes?

Hi NismoPick,

No check engine lights came on. I plan to take the truck to an independent shop today. I hope they will be able to determine the issue. I'll keep everyone posted on their diagnosis.

Thanks, George

Hello all,

for all those who are following this issue, the independent shop has indicated that the front drive line u joint is bad. He recommended that I replace both u joints since I have 133K on the truck. It will cost about $300 which is well spent money in my opinion considering the dealer completely missed this for $120. Hopefully this can help someone in the future.

Thanks for everyone's help solving this mystery.

I'd go back to the dealer and raise hell with the service advisor / manager. A complete misdiagnosis is not acceptable for a dealer.
