Hi gang,

As the title explains, my 2002 Pathfinder is not keeping radio presets. It seems to be a more prevalent problem in the cold weather months, but does rear its ugly head when it gets warmer. I've checked the main radio fuses under the steering wheel and everything appears to be fine. I've also recently gotten new battery terminal connectors as those were faded out pretty bad. I'm pretty much at a loss right now. I'm hoping it doesn't have anything to do with the wiring, but it may be. Any ideas?

Thanks all!

Sometimes things like this are a symptom of imminent battery failure. You may want to get your battery tested at an auto parts store to begin with.

Thanks! Yeah, that was my first suspicion and after replacement I still get the problem.

Ah, I see. In your post you said you had installed new battery terminals, but you didn't specify that you replaced the battery.

I think the next step should be ensuring no wires backed out of the stereo harness plugs and that the wiring is undamaged and free of corrosion. See this guide if you haven't removed the radio before.

Have you examined the wiring yet? Do you have the stock Bose system radio or an aftermarket unit?

Yes, it is the factory Bose system. I have not inspected the wiring yet. Should I remove the radio from the console to begin the inspection?

you may be past this point, but....my 2cents
i had the same problem during this rough NE winter. I didn't have to replace clamps, but i reworked them for a really tight fit, cleaned thoroughly, then treated w/ NAPA terminal protector. Has worked fine since then.

Hey everyone, FINALLY FOUND THE SOLUTION TO EVERYONE'S ISSUE ABOUT MYSTERIOUS ELECTRICAL SHORTAGES, BATTERY CONSTANTLY DRAINING CAUSING POWER TO CUT, BULBS BURNING ETC. I own a 2004 Infiniti QX4 and within the last couple of years (2010-2014) I have been replaced my battery 3 times and changed bulbs in lights with frequent irregularity. No one has been able to diagnose what the problem was - just theories which cost me $1000's of dollars. I searched the net for solutions to this problem when I realized many of us owners had the same issue. I tried to look back at my truck's history when I recalled having an issue with my music suddenly turning up high without warning - that was the beginning. Well after I researched electrical shortage and radio, I stumbled upon a thread of infiniti owners who finally figured out the electrical shortage is directly related to the Bse 6-pack cd changer/radio. If you don't turn off your radio before you turn off your ignition, the Bose radio keeps running and draining the power. Eventually after many on and off ignition attempts, the battery drains. Infiniti is aware of this problem but has not gone public about it. I'm headed there tomorrow to bring this attention to them along with printed copies of this thread that explains the issue - everyone's who's fixed their radio or unplugged the radio fuse does not have electrical shortages/battery drains. here's the article. Cross my fingers this helps all of us - http://forums.automotive.com/70/1055450 ... page4.html

Well, i am sad to report that the losing radio presets eventually led to the radio dying completely. The lights still illuminated on the system, but the radio, cd and tape deck no longer functioned. After several months of driving with a portable bluetooth speaker, i finally opted for a replacement. I still have the original radio if anyone is interested even though I assume it is inoperable.
