All,
I'm looking for advice on how to fix an audio issue in my 02 pathfinder. I have the Bose headunit w/ 6 cd changer; the display and all the buttons work as they should. Music plays great 30% of the time (from radio stations or CDs), but more often than not, it cuts out and doesn't play any sound at all. When the audio works, it plays from all speakers, and then all the speakers lose sound at the same time. This seems like an amplifier issue to me, but there are two amps, right? ...one for the front and one for the rear speakers? I figured that even if there was a signal issue going to one amp, that the other would still work. Any thoughts?

Please give any suggestions/things to check in order to fix this issue.

Thanks!
Andrew

BTW I have already checked the fuses and pulled the radio out of the dash to check the connections

There are 3 amps, one in each of the front doors and one in the rear of the vehicle. I can't remember if the amps are powered from the head unit, but that could be the cause, loss of power to the 3 amps, or the head unit quits sending the audio signals to all 3.

The wiring diagram in the service manual on this site is useful for troubleshooting.

Good luck

gotcha, thanks for the response. so you suppose my best bet is to replace the head unit? I wanted to eliminate any other possibilities before doing so

It is a very common problem with the Bose units. Typically most people just swap them out with an aftermarket unit, because it's more costly to get the factory unit refurbished. Plus with newer units you can get a lot more features anyways.

Keep in mind you may have to bypass your Bose amplifiers or get adapters to make them work. Best Buy and ect will be able to get you everything you need, or you can find the adapters online as well fairly easy.
