scan it, check that the CEL light is there, suspension (OEM or has it been changed) Catalytic Convertors/sensors

Pathfinders are notorious for failed cats.

if stock radio, check that it works (but look into changing it out soon) its known to eat CDS

Get the vin call it into dealership and see if its been through recalls maybe?

Rust.... Always rust....

just things off the top of my head.

What's the Chilkoot model?

That's low mileage, my '01 has 197,000 miles.

the SES light should come on during the lamp test when you first turn the ignition on. We have one member here that
has gone through hell because the previous owner removed the SES bulb, which should have been on all the time.

Do scan it though, after the test drive. If the the PO cleared the codes real recently, the SES light won't be on but the first failure code (if it has reoccurred) will show on a scan.

If you live where a smog test is required for transfer, require the seller to have the test done prior to transfer.

Great thanks guys!, I'm actually going to wait until tomorrow i think but i have one more question, what would be a fair price for something like that with no issues?

If it's a Chilkoot, then it's a Canadian only model. It wasn't available in the U.S.
If it is a Chilkoot, then I'm a little surprised it's in miles and not Kilometers.
I have exactly the same year and model BTW. Good truck. I have close to 240,000 Kms.
As for what to check, I agree with everything the rest of the guys said.
I have to emphasize getting the latest recall performed though, especially if it's a Canadian vehicle and has seen winters and salty roads. I'm talking about the strut tower recall, where they check for rust/corrosion issues.
NOTE: I was at the dealership last week, and even though they have only started doing this recall a few weeks ago, they have already taken 3 Pathfinders off the road.
Two of them were so bad that they are not worth fixing, and have been declared as write-offs. Scary stuff. The owners must be pretty pissed.
Not sure what Nissan is doing as compensation, but my understanding is that they will be offering some sort of financial support.
Mine was checked out 3 weeks ago, and it is still solid. No rust, corrosion, or issues. The tech who checked it said it was due to the fact that I oil spray it every fall. The undercarriage is still rust free. Proof positive that it works. I guess it paid off after all.
Good luck.

So where does the Chilkoot fit into the US E/XE/SE/LE line-up?

So I guess we just added another item: It goes to the dealer on this recall BEFORE the transfer.

MMM, maybe it's 71,000 klicks, not 71,000 miles. Investigate how to figure that out, and sure don't tell the seller. On the other hand, I think there's an incantation to change the odo from klicks to miles.

I've never found a solid explanation of where the Chilkoot (and for '04, Chinook) fit into the trim levels. They're only sold in Canada, and the two I've had seem to be pretty much the same as an SE. I've heard the '02 Chilkoot described as an XE with extra features on it.
