Hi, my uncle has a 2002 pathfinder chilkoot he is going to give me so i am trying to get help him get it in working order( well i guess help myself lol). The stereo head unit is broken and needs replacing. So i have a few questions that need answering as i am a pathfinder noob.
1. Is there a model number of the cd player ( head unit) that will help search for it?
2. How easy are the cd players to take out of the pathfinder ( ie special tools needed) ?
3. I live in western Canada so where is the best place to locate a new one without getting murdered on shipping?

any help would be greatly appreciated!
thanks :bowrofl:

Welcome to NICO. That's a Canadian model so I speak solely on the basis of US models.

Being an R50, regardless of your location, your primary concern should be rust on the strut towers. Have them checked and checked again. That's a vehicle-ending condition and, being up north, that's doubly important.

The Canadian models were very similar to the US. The radios are very easy to remove and replace. I could do it in under five minutes.

If your intent is to stay OEM... If it currently has a Bose radio, it'll need to be replaced with a Bose radio. If it's not a Bose, it'll need to be replaced with a non-Bose radio. For model year 2002-2004, if equipped with steering wheel controls, you'll have to use the radio from a 2002-2004 if you want the steering wheel controls to work properly since those years had different controls. Otherwise, earlier radios will work but the steering wheel controls won't work right.

They all use standard Nissan plugs and a variety of Nissan OEM radios will plug in, however, the bezel fit is the issue.

To find a replacement, get on eBay and buy one. If the model number on the radio is important for you to match, remove the bezel, unscrew the radio, remove it, and get the model number. Instructions available on this site or on YouTube.

These radios are easily replaced with aftermarket, especially if you don't have a Bose, which requires new speakers and bypassing the Bose amps.

If you don't find the OEM radio at a reasonable price ( to me that would be less than $100 US)
you can easily go aftermarket AND keep your existing wiring intact and use the BOSE amp if you get one of these cable interfaces made specifically for your car:

I don't see the benefit of spending much on finding another OEM using because having a modern head unit means you can get a Bluetooth interface and go hands-free and stream music from your phone. If you go aftermarket you'll also need to buy an installation bracket for mounting. Metra makes one specifically for your car and costs usually less than $25

I totally forgot about that Bose interface... This is correct. There are a couple of those available. That's a good option if it's Bose
