2002 Maxima SE Tachometer Problems

I have been trying to search for this problem online and can't find any solution to it. On my 2002 Nissan Maxima SE automatic, my tachometer rises smothly whenever I accel. BUT when the rpm's lower, It lowers in steps like a choppy motion. The car sounds and feels fine when it shifts. Can anyone help???
