Wow it has been probably 15 years since I frequented this forum...glad to see still kickin'

I ended up with a 2002 Infiniti QX4 and it needs tires. Since it is a Canadian vehicle the stock 17s are toast and looking to do a cheap offroad-y looking setup because hey, might as well since it is a 4x4 and we sometimes go camping. This will not be seeing major offroad, mostly just to and from work and maybe weekend stuff.

Looking to keep it relatively cheap. Found these 16x8 wheels in the 6x5.5 pattern: https://www.4wheelparts.com/p/pro-comp- ... PQMS=Steel

What size tire should I be looking at with the 4.25 backspace, stock lift?

A comparable diameter and width size to your old 245/65R17 tires on a 16" wheel would be a 245/70R16. However, your old 17x8 wheels have a +20mm offset, which converts to a 5.3" backspacing. The wheels you are thinking about purchasing that are 16x8 with a 4.25" backspacing, which converts to a -6mm offset, will make the tires stick out closer to the edge of the fender but I'm not sure if that would make contact when the suspension compresses over bumps and ruts and the like.

Here's a good website with a wheel offset calculator and backspacing/offset converter that will let you compare your old setup with any new setup to evaluate the differences and help you plan your next purchase. https://tiresize.com/wheel-offset-calculator/
