Hello everyone I own a great 2002 infiniti q45 with 153000 miles. About a week ago the car overheated, upon inspection the heater hose conector back top of the motor had cracked. I tried to get part from Infiniti however it was a special order with cost over $100. Quick trip to AutoZone and 2.88 later generic heater hose coupler and things were great, I thought. What is happening now, the car is running fine however it seems to be running cooler that it did while driving however when in stop and go traffic or at long stop light the temperature gage starts to rise and very quickly get into the danger zone. If this were an older car I would think thermostat however any suggestions would help. One thing of note I had the oil changed at local place the they put Breat fluid in the resovor that goes into the fan. Please help.

Did this local place flush that system out and put the proper fluid back in? Is your fan operating as it should? Break fluid is a very caustic substance that can do a lot of damage to systems that aren't designed to handle it.

If your fan is working ok, I would lean toward your cooling system not being bled properly as the source of your overheating. Newer Nissan engines are very particular about following the proper bleeding procedure anytime the coolant is flushed or drained - otherwise air pockets in the system can cause what you're describing. Check out the factory service manual (FSM) at www.nicoclub.com/FSM/ for that procedure.

Good luck!

The break fluid is still in it the fan isn't operating. Im not sure if there is a fuse that's blown, or how to properly drain and fill the resiovor. The new connection doesn't have the infinity bleed valve. Help please...

So the fan operated before... someone at a shop put brake fluid in... now it's not operating. I think I'd be back at their place asking for them to replace all of the hydraulic fan system!

Oh... and the factory service manual is available at www.nicoclub.com/FSM/

There is a very detailed procedure on how to remove everything and drain it. It appears that the system should use power steering fluid Dexron III ATF. The FSM also notes that the fan should run at full speed if the control solenoid is disconnected.
