My problem is when I turn off my a/c or heat my fan stays on it blows air still. it only blows out of the bottom/floor vents and the top vent near the windshield I am looking to see if anyone else has had this problem and what needs to be done thanks

Welcome to NICO!!Does it only do this when you're moving?I'm wondering if perhaps because the vent is open by default, that the air pressure difference is what's causing the air to blow.

Thats normal, all 96-04 Pathfinders / QX4's will blow a little bit of air out through the lower ducts when the climate control is turned completely off. I don't know why it does, but I know that it is normal.

Does the fan actually stay on? And does it operate normally on all four speeds?I'm thinking it might be the old resistor pack problem that we've seen before.

I'm pretty sure the fan turns off, but I think the vent stays slightly open. It's probably regular air pressure from driving, like KoukiS14 mentioned. As far as still blowing at idle - My best guess is that the powerful engine fan pushes some of that air into the cabin intake vent, which is near the firewall and back of the hood. Notice that the blowing stops the moment you shut off the engine (even if you leave the accessories on with the climate control set to off) Try it - sit in your Pathfinder / QX4 barefoot - turn on the engine and turn off the climate control - you will feel lukewarm air blowing on your feet.

I've been searching on this problem, and saw your post. I have 99 qx4, and the fan stays on high, no controls work. It seems like there's a short or something. I've seen things like the blower motor resistor? Any ideas what the cause is, and can I fix myself?

if i'm understanding what your trying to say correctly, then i have that problem too, except mine is with a 95 240sx. when i leave my AC to 'upper' it blows fine, but sometimes when i switch to 'lower' or defog/defrost the windows it stays blowing down there/up there. i've been looking into the problem, i've come to the conclusion that it's either a short in the system or the motor that adjusts the vents is going bad, several times i've been able to pull out part of my console and push a panel and it blows normal, but this time it got stuck

my 2001 qx4 also blows air threw the lower ducts when the climate control is switched off. although, i never thought this was a problem. i'm with fueler, i always thought this was normal. the cars i've previously owned also did this.

What has been described occurs in most if not all vehicles by design. Every vehicle has a flow-thru ventilation system (air enters from the vents, exits through vent holes in the rear.

It is done to prevent stale air from stagnating in the car while driving. It also allows carbon monoxide that may enter the cabin while moving to be pushed out even if the ventilation system is turned off.

BTW, I had a Chevette back in college (1986) and no matter how I set the vents, air always poured in from the floor vents. While at the U of I, I sufferered every morning driving to class in the wicked winters because freezing air blew in on my feet whether I liked it or not (I did NOT like it! ).
