2002 I35 engine noise?

I have a 2002 I35 with about 107,000 miles on it and so far no major problems. However, for the past month or so I have noticed that the engine makes a grinding-ish noise (the best way I can describe it is that it almost sounds circular- gets louder, then softer, then louder...) and now the service engine soon light is on. I've also noticed in the past few days that the car feels a lot more sluggish than usual. Any ideas as to what could be wrong?

I would have someone pull the code and see what it is. Then, report back.
