I've owned my 2002 Infiniti I35 for nearly a year now. When I first got it, I was hoping to have an aux in interface installed for my mp3 player and Sirius radio. I have yet, however, to read that this can be done with my factory Bose HU.

I contacted a shop today who said they had the part to install 2 aux in ports. Are they BS'ing me, or can this actually be done nowadays?

I'm tired of listening to the Sirius over my cassette adapter. Would a wired FM hookup offer better sound quality?

Thanks guys!

They're full of crap. A wired FM modulator is your best bet. Sound quality won't be that of a CD, but it will definately be better than a tape or radio station. They're also very easy to install if you do it yourself.

They aren't lying to you. The part they are talking about is an aftermarket CD player There is no way to do it. I prefer an aftermarket unit myself.

Actually, Id suggest just that - an aftermarket CD player. I've got an 02 and my Bose unit can't play CDs anymore.

Get away from stock if you can. You'll be happy you did.

My Bose skips when playing CDs too, pretty annoying.

I would LOVE to get rid of the stock system. I just don't have a lot of money to put into it right now, and my understanding is that it's not going to be cheap.

If I was to go aftermarket, I'd want to keep the steering wheel controls. I don't really want to install new speakers, amp, sub. Also, there are no premade dash kits for my car, right?

So I'm looking at the HU (I'm a fan of Pioneer ~$150), some custom dash kit (?), some interface for the steering wheel controls (~$70), and another part to get my headunit to work with Sirius (~$90). Plus all misc. parts that I would need (~$50?).

On top of that, I've never done a stereo install before.

doing a stereo install is a piece of cake. It's really really simple. I love pioneer myself. They are satallite ready but they don't pick up normal radio very well. I'm not sure about your dash kit, I do know they make the steering wheel controls converter but they are kind of expensive. And thankfully I've never owned the bose so I don't know about redoing the rest of the system. *shrug* Good luck

With Sirius I don't really do much FM/AM listening.

Do you know where I might be able to find instructions on removing the factory stereo on my car, installing an aftermarket unit, etc?

Keep the Bose speakers, get a new headunit.

I've heard all good things from people who have only gotten a new headunit. Apparently the speakers sound a million times better without the Bose unit (which is actually not Bose at all, its made by Clarion.) If it was really Bose parts in there, Im sure it would sound better, but its not.

Yea, I have no interest in getting new speakers.

This may be a silly question, but should I use the Bose amp or attempt to bypass it?

There are actually two seperate wire harnesses you can get to wire in the new headunit. One of the sets uses the Bose amp, the other bypasses Bose and uses the amp built into the new headunit. (A Circuit City or Best Buy will probably offer either harness)

I'd suggest sticking with the harness that still uses the Bose amp. Powering the speakers with the headunit amp might be too much for them. They run on such low power that it would be very easy to blow one if much power goes to them.

Thanks for the help. I have another question for you.

If I was going to install both of these:

where would I mount them? I guess the Sirius tuner could go under a seat? What about the PAC SWI-X? How difficult is it to run the wires around the car?
