My power steering is losing fluid. No leaks on the driveway. Must be while I am driving. I am a novice mechanic at best. Is there a common failure point on this make and model to look for. I'd like to try to fix this myself. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Also, I reviewed this sights posting concerning driver side passenger seat glide motor stopping and window motor replacement. Both fixes were made easy thanks.

The high pressure hose from the pump can leak, nothing else common IMO.
You should be able to see where the fluid is going.
Get a good flashlight.

Is your rack and pinion leaking? Sometimes it hard to tell if it is
the power steering or rack and pinion.

On your car there are two lines going into the rack right next to the steering colum. Its easy to see this by almost poking your head from the drivers wheel well and looking at it there. The high pressure line you can see some of it from above and also see parts of it from getting almost on top of the intake manifold from the back and look down past the valve cover area(spark plug area) From underneath look at the hoses goign to the power steering pump.
like ezb57e said, the most common problem is the high pressure hose.

A couple of days before you try to work on the problem i suggest you
get a can of degreaser and try to clean the area you think is
leaking the best you can.

I also suggest using power steering fluid in the reservoir. I think on
the Maxima you can use transmission fluid as well-but if there is a
leak it would make it tougher to determine where to diagnose. I have
even considered putting some time of orange colorant in the PS reservoir
but don't know where to get it.

If you do work on the power steering pump or other parts be sure to do
a lot of research. You will find the repair is not easy due to limited space
constraints. It is one of those repairs you will need to be patient with and
don't get in a hurry

Thx everyone. I took a closer look at it today. Inspecting the lines coming off the reservoir it appears one or the other is leaking right where they run on top of each other heading toward the firewall to the right if the suspension. I will clean it up over the weekend and determine if my big hands and arms can get in to the area to repair it. I'll keep you posted. Since I topped off the reservoir I now see the leaked fluid on the driveway and garage.

Thx everyone for the advice. It was the high pressure power steering line. I couldn't access it so I bit the bullet and had my local mechanic do it. The infinity part was expensive but at least it is done. Cleaning up the parts with a degreaser was helpful in locating the leak. Thx again.
