I'm hoping someone can help me out, I'm replacing my starter in my 2002 frontier 4 wd 3.3 supercharged truck I have it loose but cannot figure out how to get it out to be able to put the new one in. I would really appreciate any ideas/tips anyone may have to offer. Thank you!

Should have updated earlier but finally got the starter out no special trick nust time consuming and tedious as you just bave to work it until you can squeeze it through. Never had so much trouble trying to take a starter out before it was a pain in the a**. But, after all that work found out it wasn't my starter after all turned out to be the timing.

With a 163,123 miles on it i knew it was past it's time, luckily there was no major damage as it was still running good up until i shut the truck off so i wasn't driving it when it went, luckily. Anyway had a friend of my stepson do the work so after new timing belt, water pump, thermostat, tensioner and spring, seals, spark plugs and all new belts it runs like it's brand new!

Have to say i've owned this truck since 2003, bought it with 19,000 miles on it, second owner i have not had one bit of problem with it. The only thing i've done is just normal regular maintaince, oil change etc. I don't drive it like i stole it, beat it or anything like that. I do take it off road but nothing major. So i have to say i am very impressed and satisfied.

Has anyone pulled the starter from a 2001-2004 2.4 L 4 cylinder? If so, did you take the starter out through the passenger side wheel well or out from below?

I cut two seams in the passenger side wheel well and folded the sheet metal up. This gave me access to the bottom and top bolt of the starter after moving the electrical conduit out of the way. Then I took the top bolt off the shock and compressed it out of the way, I detached the plastic clip and moved the accelerator cable and the two fuel lines out of the way. This made ample space to remove and reinstall the starter. The 2001-2004 Frontiers have much more hoses and conduit in the way than previous year Nissan Frontiers. It is not optimum to cut the wheel well but I folded it back in place and covered it with the plastic liner. I have a future access panel now.
THIS MADE THE STARTER REMOVAL MUCH EASIER. This procedure is for the 2.4 L 4 banger
