Fan speeds one and two didn't work when I purchased my Frontier last month. I didn't realize it at first, I thought maybe speed one was just very subtle. That and speed three worked fine which in the old days meant the resistor was good. Not anymore, having working speeds three and four might make you think you have a bad switch and a good resistor but in my case I had a bad resistor, all speeds go through the resistor now, even speed four. I found my resistor was burned up pretty good. I replaced it and speeds one and two are back up and running.
Replacing a resistor on a 2002-2004 Frontier is pretty simple. All you need is a Philips head screw driver. Look underneath the glove box up where the blower motor is. You will see a flat 5 terminal harness with a lock on it. Unhook the harness, unscrew the two screws holding the resistor in place then pull it out. Installation is reverse of removal. $20 and fifteen minutes can get you all your speeds back. Enjoy!
Sorry I didn't take pics of the install. I'll take pics of the damaged resistor this weekend.
