2002 Flickering Headlights

For the past month or so both of my headlights have been flickering, this after about a month of my Drivers side headlight not working at all. I tried to change the bulb on the drivers side and it still didn't work, so I put it back together and made an appointment for the shop, then the light goes on and stayed on and now they just flicker with regular use. Anyone with a similar experience and maybe a cure? I know these cars have had issues in the past with their headlights, just wondering if maybe I just need to clean the contacts on the ignitors or if my ballasts or my headlight module is going. Thanks for any input in advance.

Ballasts have been a problem with these cars- part is about $1000 per side. Sure makes old fashioned halogens look attractive, huh?
