What's your guess on the power output of this car w/ good intake system, catback, headers, and chip? I was talking to some dude with one, he says it "probably" has 400-450 whp, I thought more like 350, but I'm not sure, the engine is awesome. Also...stock it does a quarter mile in around 13.5, right? He seemed to think 12.2...I just smiled and nodded.

Well, here's what 2 minutes on Google found

2002 Camaro SS
  • Price: $32,780
  • Miles Per Gallon: 19/28 mpg
  • Curb Weight: 3554 lbs
  • Layout: Front-Engine/RWD
  • Transmission: 6-Speed Manual
  • Engine
  • Type: V8
  • Displacement: 5665 cc
  • Horsepower: 325 bhp @ 5200 rpm
  • Torque: 340 lb-ft @ 4000 rpm
  • Redline: 6200 rpm

  • 0-100 mph: 11.8 sec
  • Quarter Mile: 13.5 sec @ 107 mph

Starting with numbers like that I don't see him getting to 400-450 Whp with just those mods.

I've heard of a few factory freaks that dynoed around 320 at the wheels. Even supposing he has one of those, its highly unlikely he has over 350whp. Also, on a great day he MIGHT run mid to high 12's on exceptionally good tires or slicks of some sort.

I have a friend with a C5 that is chipped, exhaust, K&N filter, and Head work. He is making around 450. But that is mostly due to the head work.

No way he is over 400 hp. Not a reasonable chance what so ever. NO WAY!

They dyno about 320 to the wheels. My stock 98 z28 put 305 to wheels, they all do. Chevy sandbags because they don't want to steal the vettes thunder. I would say it would hit about 350 to the wheels.

Thanks Rex for spending 2 minutes on Google for me (I expected someone to say something like that). I was pretty sure on the stats, but wanted to know what everyone had to say, that's all.

Ryan, didn't mean it that way, I was more trying to "quanify" my info as I didn't put a lot of research/validation behind it.

Over on LS1.com forums there are several track results for LS1-equipped SS and WS6 models, running high 12's with a lid, catback and sticky rear tires (with 6-speeds).

But low 12's with an SS will require a lot more mods than that, so I'd say he's exaggerating a bit. The half-second Kentucky Windage.
