I have an 02 Altima- 4 cylinder. When in park- seems to idle fine. Put in reverse and makes a weird "rattle" noise. Hard for me to find where it's coming from- Had to have daughter drive and me listen but tough with the car moving. Friend of min said motor mounts. Is that common in this car?

Did you resolve it? I've had rattles from heat shields next to muffler a little loose, Also the serpentine belt can make a little rattle when they get super dry and old.

Check the coolant over flow reservoir lower mounting bracket. I had a noise on my 2002 Altima a while back that made me think timing chain. Come to find out one of the bolt holes for my passenger side motor mount was stripped. I removed the L shaped bracket that holds the coolant reservoir to the motor mount and The sound went away. I then cut a 3/8” hose in half (length wise) about 4” long and put that on my power steering reservoir to keep the coolant reservoir away from the power steering reservoir. Hope this helps.
