Ok..I know this kmuch ---> [ ] about cars. Would appreciate any expert info.
My altima's clutch was slipping. My good friend and mechanic replaed the clutch (and prssure plate) with Nissan supplied parts. After reassembling it lurched when put into gear. He said the slave cylinder was'nt comming out all the way, So he replaced that and reassembled. Still didnt work properly.
Today he spoke with nissan who told them they had a maintenance bulletin which suggested replacing the fly wheel. Frankly, it seems to me the flywheel should have been replaced along with the clutch in the first place. Isn't that the norm..or am I off base.
He's only charging me labor for the original clutch replacement. But i'm guessing the whole job including the flywheel (another dissassembly / reassemble) is going to run me around $1,300 (the get $50.00 an hr. labor).
Questions:1) should the flywheel have been replaced at the very beginning as SOP...or is the Altima unique in requiring flywheel replacment with clutch replacement? 2) What should I have expected to pay for the complete job if done right the first time?
Thanks
