Im having an issue with my ABS brakes on my new altima (130,XXX KM's) , sometimes while under normal braking pressure the abs will just start going off randomly. The abs light will occasionaly come on after this and the system will not operate untill the car has restarted. I assume that one or more of the abs wheel sensors are bad so my questions are

1) Is there any self-diagnostic procedure to dertermine which if any sensors/components are malfunctioning.

2) What is the quickest safest way to disable the abs system untill i fix this (fuse in engine bay is linked to power windows which I'd rather not lose) problem? Its happening more and more often and im afraid It might start messing up while im not even braking.

Many Thanks

-Nick

Hi Nick,

I am having the exact same problem and have yet to find a way to disable the ABS. My dealer told me that it was not worth the $$ to change the ABS sensors on a car with 250K kms but other than this problem, my Altima is fantastic. If you find out how to do this, please contact me and I'll do the same for you.

Thanks!

Jim

I actually found out which sensor was malfunctioning and replaced it with a part form a scrapyard for $40, however from reading the FSM i've believe that simply unplugging any of the 4 wheel sensors should be enough to cause the ABS controller to go into failsafe, never had to try it but sound like you should.
