Does anyone know if the back plugs match a 2000 Q45 or has anyone tried to switch the cluster out for a direct fit with something else more current?

Can't say that I've seen this tried. Nissan is so tricky with electronics... especially in more recent years, that clusters from different years of the same car are not compatible. If I wanted to research this, I'd start with trying to find pin-outs for the clusters in the respective service manuals for each car... just to see if there's a chance.
