Hi everybody! First time trying to describe this problem, so please be patient.

My cd player went out last week. It would only "click" very fast, then switch to the radio. Then this past weekend, while the radio was "off" the display changed from having nothing on it to "TEL". I was not able to turn the "TEL" off, and thought I would check it out later. What I did not know, was that the display light would stay on for 2 days, and drain the battery.

Thinking logically (?) I thought if I removed the fuse for the radio amp(15), it would not run the battery down. However, when I started it up this morning, it was low. Once I got to work, I also removed the radio fuse (10a). I'm hoping this will help until I get it to the dealer.

The battery is only a couple of months old, and I bought the biggest one possible... Interstate

The bigger problem I have is with a belt squealing - whether it is hot or cold out, rainy or dry. It might be the worst noise my next door neighbor has ever heard early in the morning. The mechanic say there is nothing wrong with the belt, and they have done something with a "tensioner". I'd like to know what to tell them when I take it back.

Thanks for your help!

On the squealing, check your crankshaft harmonic balancer. They tend to wear out and start spinning on the rubber insert, which makes a squealing noise.

My 00 RX4 started to squeal but not so bad. It's got very low mileage, only 45K now. I sprayed some belt dressing just one time and the noise is gone for about more than two months. I assumed the belt is not bad enough due to the low mileage to need a replacement now.

88pathoffroad - Thanks, I'll put that on my list for them to check!

02QX4ME - Right - I had the belt changed with my 60K mile check, and have probably not put 2K miles on it yet.

it seems that everyone's bose changer goes out on them, mine did. there are some places that will repair them but its not worth it to me really, i just use an ipod. i dont know what the TEL is though, the changer failing is common. i think its some plastic piece inside breaks off and so it just clicks cause it cant move.

average repair for bose $200.... you can get a nice mp3 deck, bought and installed for around the same price, but you will lose the disc changer and TEL mode.... a bluetooth unit can usually be bought to add to an aftermarket deck....
