I had a head gasket replaced on a 2001 Sentra 1.8L to fix a small coolant leak between two cylinders. As I followed the car home I noticed during acceleration an occasional puff of gray smoke coming from the tailpipe and I could smell burning oil. About 100 miles later (weekend) the car was 1 quart low on oil. This car did not use oil before the head gasket was replaced,
I took it back to the mechanic and he said the car seems to be occasionally sucking oil from the valve cover into the intake, He replaced the PVC but that didn’t fix it. He said it could be a problem with the valve cover which happens with older Nissans.
I’ve read several Audi, BMW and Volkswagen blogs that have similar symptoms. They all have problems with the Positive Crankcase Ventilation System. Does a Nissan 1.8 have a crank case breather or hose that could get clogged?
