Someone tried to steal the vehicle, shoved something into the ignition. Something is stuck deep inside the ignition switch, the key wouldn't seat or turn. Hillbilly helpers disconnected the steering column at the steering gear to turn the wheels for loading and transport. After unsuccessful attempts to free the ignition switch and start the vehicle, dash panel key light lit and now the steering wheel is locked, the ignition switch is locked, worse, turning the electrical switch at the end of the ignition switch assembly does not start the vehicle. The vehicle is a brick with one key.

How can the security system be bypassed or re-set?
Tried removing pos battery cable - no joy.
If the ignition switch assembly is removed and replaced will that solve the security system shut off issue?

Replacing the entire lock cylinder/switch assembly should take care of the problem. You can find them used on ebay with a matching key or you could get a factory new assembly and you'll have to have a dealer program your ecu to accept a new key. If you go the used route I'd recommend replacing the electrical switch at the end of the assembly with a new part just to be safe.

OK thanks. That's what I'm going to do and I will update the post with results.
