Purchased a used 2001 QX4. Came with 245/65-17. According to tirerack.com, optional 17" tires are size 255/60-17.

Which one is correct? I will need to replace the tires at summer's end and want to make sure they are the right size. Probably will be getting the Michelin Cross Terrain SUV tires as replacements.

Thanks, alinski...

They are both correct. Your vehicle placard(usually found in door jamb) will tell you what OEM size was on your exact unit. An automobile often has a couple of sizes available for different trim levels, option packages, etc. Both sizes you mentioned have an overall diameter within 1/2" of each other....hardly noticeable when payload, air pressure, tire wear come into consideration.

The 255/60-17 will be pitched to you as the "sportier" tire....while the 245/65-17 will be taller and more "utilitarian" according to tire sales sharks.:D

Have fun and be sure to pay CLOSE attention to price difference between the two selections.

SmithSR you are correct sir! You are looking at only about 3/10" diff. in O.D. (less than you wear down on the stock tread). It's just a little wider footprint.

'tire sales sharks' ? I resemble that remark!:pface Kinda reminds me of my favorite line in The Family Man is "I sell tires: retail." Hey, we all have to make a living right?
