2001 Qx4 Rear DRums or Rear disc?

I am surprised to see that my 2001 QX4 looks like it has rear drums not disc .Do any of you find that strange??

No, lots of older SUV's have this same setup.

Drum brakes are lighter, cheaper, more durable, require less maintenance, don't make much noise, don't need a servo, etc etc etc.

Disc brakes provide more braking power, at the cost of being more complex (read: more potential problems).

Since the weight is shifted to the front when you're braking, the tradeoff for disc brakes on the front axle is worth it. Not worth it to have discs on the back axle, IMO, unless you're going 30+ MPH in reverse and then slamming on the brakes on a regular basis.
