To solve the issue at minimal cost when using professional mechanics you most definitely do not want to replace just the bushings - you should replace both upper and lower control arms as units. New control arms are relatively cheap; you can get all four pieces for around $150 and a pro can install them all in under two hours. To remove and replace the bushings would take probably twice as long. If you have the tools, time and inclination you can do the job at home but for speed and ease of access it's best to replace them with the car completely off the ground and up on a mechanic's lift. I did the lower arms at home and it took about 90 minutes. After thrashing about for another hour under the car attempting to get at the upper arms and get sufficient leverage while laying on my back I decided to pay a mechanic friend $100 to do the uppers. Took him 20 minutes on a lift.
