Hi everyone,

I just got a 2001 QX4 with 130k miles. Runs perfect but apparently the pipe where the rear and center muffler meet rusted clean off. The rear muffler is just hanging there but isnt even connected to the exhaust system.

I included pictures below. my question is: do I have to buy a) new rear muffler b) new rear AND center muffler or maybe c) can I somehow just reconnect the two?

This happens to most (if not all) Pathfinders and QX4's. When it happened to my Pathfinder, I went to an exhaust shop and they cut the flanges off and welded in a new piece of pipe for $20.

Well I got the exhaust repaired a couple of years ago at college (in Morgantown, WV). However, I just got a custom exhaust put on my Pathfinder at Hackettstown Motor Imports and their exhaust guy is really good. This place will probably cost for than $20 for this repair though, they run $86/hour and it's a 30min. job. I'm not too familiar with any other places around here, I know there are a coupe of Midas's and such somewhere near.

Psssssshhhh, you're near Paterson? I'm sure there are LOTS of exhaust places around there. You could probably even find a world-class shop in/near NYC (if you wanted to do a custom exhaust).
