2001 Qx4 Keyless Remote Problem

HELP!

My keyless remote stopped working on my Qx4.

I thought it was just the battery. Chnged that then it worked only a few times. So I thought maybe the remote had just gone bad and I needed a new one.

Did some research and found out mine used the /A version. Ordered a new remote. Followed the programming instructions perfectly and it seemd to go through all the right hazard flashes and what not.

New remote doesn't work either. I'm running out of ideas. Anyone have any similar problems. I'm trying to avoid having to go to the dealer and have them ream me for something tha might be a simple fix. Any help would be appreciated greatly. :-)

I have a 97 qx4. I bought mine, and the car didn't come with a remote. I have bought two used remotes, and tried to program them to the car, and I cannot get them to work. I know my car is fine, I locked the doors and opened the hatch and the alarm went off. The car goes into program mode when I try to program the remote (get in, lock doors, insert key 6 times, hazard lights flash, turn key to acc., then push remote button). The hazards flash, but I cannot get it to accept the remote. I am lost too.

I don't want to take it to Infiniti for them to charge me $$$ for a new remote, especially if I have one already that works. If you figure it out, let me know.

Sounds like a similar problem.

Taking to the dealer on Wednesday. I bought the vehical from them and explained the issue in detail. Buying a new remote is not an option, since the OEM one did work for a week after purchase. I'll let you know what they say.

Got an update.

Looks like the smart key control box is bad.

Good and bad news.

I'll give the bad news first.

The part is $600.00 and labor will be like $200.00

Good news for me is that we bought the vehical from the dealer and they said since we have only have had it for a few months they would fix it free of charge even though I don't have an extended warrenty.

If thats the case I will buy an aftermarket alarm/keyless for like 100 bucks and put it in myself.

I think you can actually get the part for cheaper through infinitipartsusa.com for cheaper. I think the part was like 200 bucks there. Still a good chunk of dough. I also have no idea how the factory system is involved with other parts, so as far as integrating aftermarket alarm and keyless who knows what it would effect.

I like the OEM idea better, but I'd do the 100 dollar option.AWESOME of them to fix it for free though. . incredibly cool. Glad ya got it worked out.

You could also hunt around a junkyard for a busted QX4 to take it from, too. . we have an import-only yard here in Indiana, surely there's something where you live too. .

I think it's called the SMART ENTRANCE CONTROL UNIT.

I looked at the specs and it looks like a wireing nightmare to replace.

The following systems are controlled by the smart entrance control unit.- Warning chime- Rear window defogger and door mirror defogger timer- Power door lock- Multi-remote control system- Theft warning system- Interior lamp timer- Electric sunroof and power window timer- Headlamp battery saver- Battery saver

For detailed description and wiring diagrams, refer to the relevant pages for the each system.The smart entrance control unit receives data from the switches and sensors to control their correspondingsystem relays and actuators.

That looks like it. But I can't be sure. The service manual calls it a SMART ENTRANCE CONTROL UNIT.

Is your Qx4 a 2001.5 or a 2001?

I have the service manual for both if you want to download it. Both files are at least 40 megs.

It might give you the info you need, but it's way to complicated for me.

Grab em now cause I'm only going to leave them up for about an hour.
