Hey all, I have a 2001 Qx4 and I've noticed that when I try locking my doors from the inside (either the driver or passenger side door) the doors will lock and then quickly unlock. This happens repeatedly, over and over again as long as I continue to try and lock the doors from the interior of the vehicle. There is no problem using the remote. What could be the issue here? This makes it really inconvenient during instances such as this morning, when I dropped my car off at my mechanic and had already given him the keys and tried to lock the car, but couldn't and instead I had to go to each individual door and lock it manually; very very irritating. is going on? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I seem to remember that it will do that if there's a door ajar (or it THINKS there'sa door ajar).

I ran an experiment on my '01 PF, and it does just that if a door is ajar. I know that on mine, sometimes the hatch will LOOK closed, but isn't. Open and closeall five doors.

Is the door ajar idot light on?

Maybe there is something wrong with the ignition switch? Like when you leave the keys in it, but it just thinks the keys are in it. I know that it will try to prevent you from locking yourself in. My Maxima and QX4 will do this.

It is possible your door lock timer is messed up or something else with the locks.

It will do that if it thinks there is a key in the ignition, and one or more doors are open. With no key in the ignition switch, you should be able to lock all the doors with the driver's side lock button, even if the door is open.I suspect it's something in the ignition switch.Try jiggling the ignition switch, or tapping the steering column. Also, do you still get the chiming sound, (like you get when you leave the key in it or the headlights on?)

yes, i actually do get that chiming sound with the door open. i remember it used to only chime when the door was open if the key was in the ignition but now it does it regardless. are the two (doors not locking and chime without key in ignition) related? i appreciate the help, lets keep it coming till a solution arises!

It does sound like it thinks the key is on.

Here is something else to try. Hold the door lever out while you lock the door. By door lever, I mean the piece that you pull to open the door. Mine will only lock with the door open if I do it this way.

If there is a key in the ignition, however, mine won't lock unless the doors are closed. My remote will not work at all if the key is in the ignition.

Keep in mind that mine is a 1999. They changed something with the locks when the 2001's came out.
