My question is has anyone replaced their HID bulbs and was it a pain? Did anyone level the lights with the screws?

The Qx4 we just got had a new HID bulb put in and of course the other one is color shifted and the new on is yellowish. Also the bulb was obviously not put in correct due to the scattered light. I bought 2 new Philip's D2R 85122+ that I want to install. They bulbs are awesome because you don't have to wait for the color shift. I'm surprised the dealers don't use this to replace burned out bulbs to match the other side. Anyway. I can't find any directions anywhere how to replace them or aim them correctly. It can't be that hard. Just make sure you disconnect the battery and not to touch the bulbs or bump them against anything. Any experience is appreciated. The deal charges an arm and a leg for this. The same OEM bulbs they get I can get for way cheaper.

Yea, it's not in the manual for HID lights. They just have the halogen specs and how to replace.

In the manual it says go to the dealer to change HID bulbbs due to high voltage <shrugs>

Found out what the problem was. The dealer replaced the D2R bulb with the inspection before sale. Their Certified Infiniti Mechanic had the bulb upside down. There is a notch on the top of bulb plug where it goes into the housing that helps line it up. It was on the oposide side of the radius and therfore crooked. Talk about half ***.

^ Philips and Sylvania/Osram make higher quality bulbs. Along with another company (which I forget), they supply bulbs from most OEM apps. I havent heard anything about PIAA specifically, but I'd stick with the proven bulbs...

I just wanted to update this thread with a couple things. my passenger side HID bulb went out about a week ago. I called my local dealer for a quote on one bulb and they wanted $274!! I said F-U and started my search online for bulbs. I found a great resource at http://www.xenonliquidators.com. I purchase a pair, yes two bulbs, for less then $50 shipped! So right there saved myself over $500. I got the bulb in 3 days later, yesterday, so I replaced both driver side and passenger side when i got home from work. it was pretty easy...took about 30 mins. here are the steps....

1. Make sure you disconnect the battery before anything else (you don't want to get shocked by these high voltage babies). If you're replacing the passenger side bulb, take the battery out for more room to work, especially to see what's going on in there (you can undo the air filter case on the drivers side for the same benefit, again--disconnect the battery first).

2. Find and unscrew the round, black, plastic lid behind the headlight, it's up and to the left.

3. You'll see a shiny metal connector with electrical warnings printed on it and Michael Jackson glove looking wiring attached to it. Turn that gently to the left to open up access to the actual bulb (you'll now see the bottom/back of the bulb--a black circle with a small metal tip in the middle).

4. Unhook the two metal braces that hold the bulb in place (push in gently to let wire out--kind of like unhooking a bungee cord or unsetting a mouse trap).

5. Pay attention how the two divots on the bulb case line up with the little nubs at the top of the encasing (you have to put the new one in lining up the same way.)

6. You can now take out the bulb. You might consider practicing the replacement sequence with your old bulb that you just took out before sticking the new one in there--just to get the hang of it so you aren't banging the new one around.

7. Once you've got the bulb back in there just put everything else back in place in reverse order.

8. Wash those dirty hands and try turning on your lights.

9. Go celebrate your automotive victory by driving somewhere at night!

Also here is the link for our bulbs! ENJOY!!

Hey jaredsg30,I was wondering how is the color between the two bulbs you bought? I bought some h3 bulbs for my fogs and the color is a bit different between the left and the right.thx

funnyman82....

The color match is perfect. It is recommended that both left and right HID bulbs be changed at the same time for this reason. Concerning your H3 fog light bulbs, I'm not sure why they would be different from each other. i just have to stock bulbs in mine. what brand did you go with for the H3 bulbs?

i just changed out my HID's because the one on the driver's side went out... what a pain!!

I had to remove the airbox to get access to the bulb ..there is no way around this.. although it's not that difficult to remove the airbox, it's not for someone who has never done it before... there's a total of 6 bolts..and then you could take the box out and have enough room to access the bulb area... the passenger side is muchhhh easier with just removing the battery..

side note: i had bought some cheaper replacement bulbs and after having gone thru the installation, I wish i had bought better ones since I fear having to go thru the installation again... i would def say, it's not for the faint of heart, it took me 4 hours to completely change out 2 bulbs, but it's better than paying the high dealer installation prices..yes, i said 4 hours..lol.. (i'm a computer guy, not a car guy..so I was quite proud of my accomplishment)
