2001 QX4 cranks but won't start

Got in the car this morning and the engine cranks but will not fire. I have a feeling possibly the fuel pump....for the 3.5L engine is the fuel pump located in the gas tank? I hope not. Any help appreciated.

i had that problem, the distributor cap was replaced and the remote starter was removed completely.....worked like a charm ever since. just my experience

The engine has 160k miles and original spark plugs so ill check those

3.5s dont have distributors. What key are you using?

The QX4's vehicle security system has an ignition interlock where a chipped key must be present to start the engine. With a dead chip, or non-chipped key, you can gain door entry, turn the ignition, crank the engine, but it will not start.

It's worth a shot to try using a spare key if you think it could be such a security system issue.

when u crank it does it turn the engine or do u just here the starter motor??

if the engine cranks check these out...okay first check your battery, and fuel tank to make sure its full lol fuel filter pluged or fuel line restricted. check fuel pump...

check engine immobilezer system

moisture or bad ignition components...

anything dealing with ignition really.

but check the cheap stuff first though...

I only have 1 key, car fired up fine this morning but when I went to go to work it would not crank, I can smell gas and Im almost sure its not fuel pump

if your getting gas to flow ...its more likely it wont burn iti would look into the coil packs as well as what other suggested

yeah i forgot about the key too....that happened to me i have unprogrammed keys, the other day i freaked out but realized i was using the wrong key. but thats obviously not your problem if you have one key. you should really make a copy and program it too

Well my car has been having a cylinder misfire because of the coil packs so I suspect they finally went out.

aww man i just had to fix that... i reccomend u replaccing all the coils just incase. now u might want to check your maf and cat and all your o2 sensors. i found out the hardway. i was driving when my number 2 cylinder was misfiring horribly to the point where my car was shaking like it had blown a rod. that screwed up alot of stuff but i had no choice i needed to get to school. it will throw the code p0171 when it does check yoru maf and o2 sensor. i have yet to rplace my o2 sensors.

Mine cranks but wont start i notice the noise from starter is different so im checking starter asap will post findings also a mechanic friend of mine just fix one like mine and end it up being the transmission flywheel broken we will se i guess

Did you replace the tran flywheel? a friend of mine had to on his qx4, his would crank but no start and ended it up replacing the FW as i said. My qx4 has the same symptoms I do not know what to do!
