Hello all,

I’ve been reading posts here for a bit trying to get my buddies Infiniti road worthy but am at a wall. Its a 2001 (dated 11/2000 on the door frame) with 200,000 miles. I started with 4 codes. One appeared to be the swirl valve since it hasn't returned after swapping the valve and clearing the code. The next 2 codes that remained were P1110 B1 malfunction and P1145 B2. I initially swapped the Camshaft position sensor on B2 (the 2 pin) with a Duralast sensor and it didn't change anything. Then I changed the B1 sensor (the 3 pin) with a Duralast and only P1145 returned. Am I missing a B2 sensor somewhere in there or is there another recommended route to take?

Thank you guys for any advice.
Tim

Check the variable valve timing control solenoids. There is one on each bank, located left and right top front of engine. These hydraulic valves can become sticky with oil gunk and cleaned up when taken apart to remove contaminants stuck in them so they will function correctly again or the solenoid could be electrically faulted so replacement would be needed.

That code is usually electrical. Out of 229 instances in Identifix, only 8 were from oil problems or any cause other than a bad sensor or bad sensor wiring.

You do actually have 3 cam sensors on that engine, and two crank. The ones you're working with are IVT control sensors, the main Phase sensor is on the front of the left head. However, unlike the VK's with the same setup, the ECM's don't often get confused and blame one for the other.

PS - Both of the IVT sensors are Hall (3-wire), so maybe you're getting confused. The 2-wire is the main Phase sensor.

Hmm ok. Is there another IVT closer to the firewall on passenger side?
I may pull the solenoid and at least give it a once over as well to make sure its not gunked.

This diagram should help you out. The IVT control sensors are 23731TB, the main cam sensor (phase) is 23731M.
