Hello all,

Does anyone know where the fuel check valve on the 2001 QX4 is located? I've heard that it's frequently part of the fuel pump, and that's my best guess at this point.

I'm trying to solve a problem with starting, and have determined that the problem is the fuel pressure is dropping in the lines after the engine is stopped. If I shut off the engine and immediately crank it, it starts up fine. If I turn the key to On 3 times before starting, it starts up fine. If I try to start it after an hour or more of sitting, it cranks for about 5 seconds then finally sputters to life. It has no problem idling or running.

The fuel pressure regulator and fuel damper are brand new; the fuel pump is probably original.

Check valve your refering to is part of the fuel pump inside the fuel tank.

Where you say it is loosing pressure.. well turn the key to on for 15 seconds and then try to crank it. If it starts right up then I agree it is a fuel pump issue. If it still needs abunch a cranking I would suspect you have a few leaking injectors cause theengine to be partly flooded with gas

I was afraid of that :-/ Thanks for confirming!

Yeah, turning it to On (not cranking) a few times does the trick. The fuel pump is only activated for one second when the key is switched to On, so I have to do it multiple times.

Have you changed the fuel filter?

Yep, a few hundred miles old. The one it replaced was about a year old and didn't drop any debris when I emptied the gas out of it. The filter before that had enough sand to make a hermit crab happy it wouldn't have surprised me to find it was the original.
