First & for most what we see is not the actual bumper, its a piece of plastic that goes over the ugly metal bumper underneath. I know that there is a difference in our body styles (I have a 97) but I think that it is all pretty much the same set up, so here goes:
First there are going to be a couple of brackets on the sides. If you are planning on taking off the bumper & not putting it back on then only unbolt it from the body (mine only took 2 bolts per bracket), if you are simply wanting to close the gap, make sure that all the bolts are in place & tightened down. Next there are little "clips" that help the bumper hook into the Pathfinder, I want to say I had 8 in total, go through & pop them out or if you are planning on closing the gap, simply make sure that they are all in place (everyonce in a while they will break, being that they are made of plastic). Now that takes care of the plastic bumper cover. It should look like this:You see the big ugly black metal thing? That is the real bumper.
If you are reading this next part I am going to assume (I don't like to "assume" because it makes an A$$ out of U & ME, get it?) that you are taking the bumper off, so under the bumper you should see two braces of such that have 4 bolts each that conect the actual bumper. Now all you have to do is unbolt or break them, as was the case with 2 of mine, in which it should look something like this:
Later I painted that little lower part black so it didn't look so God-d@mned ugly.
