I have an automatic 2001 pathfinder that sometimes will not "unlock" when the brake pedal is depressed---making it impossible to move the shifter out of park move. I think I have traced the problem to a relay located in the console just behind the shift lever. Relay has the following name and numbers printed on it.2523079915MIYAMOTOAccording to the local Nissan dealer, I have to purchase the shifter assembly which costs $400. in order to get the relay. Does anyone know where I can buy just the relay?

remove the relay and post up a picture of it for us. Good chances that you can get it at Radio Shack, under a different part number.

Damn... your dealer is as dumb as my local dealer.

It's $17 dollars.

Or you can go the cheaper Radio Shack route.

also, welcome to NICO!!

The dealer might not be dumb. (Some of the dealer parts guys do get a bonus for the parts they sell.) My buddy is the journeyman Nissan parts guy where I get my stuff from and he gets a commission ( bonus ) on stuff he sells.

But yeah every relay in the newer Nissan 's are available as a separate part so that parts guy you dealt with didn't look hard enough. The computer parts system listed that relay by itself but the parts guy has to know where to look first for the final breakdown of the shifter assembly.

It's the safety lock solenoid. This went out on mine.

There are 2 things you can do.

1. Replace this solenoid. ($90 + labor)

2. Jam some random object of the correct size in between the solenoid and the lever it moves. (free, this is what I did... works fine for me)

If you do the second... make sure it is in park or neutral when you start it, and with your foot on the brake like you normaly would.
