Need any/all advice/guidance on DTC P1140. Intake Timing Control Sensor Bank #1. Local Nissan dealer wants $341 to repair, $166 for part. Told me part number was 23796-4W000. Is this correct? Could someone tell me where the sensor is located? Any directions on how to fix this problem myself/husband.Thanks so much

In the pathfinder forum at the top there are some stickies. in one of them there is a list of links to common problems with pathfinders. one of those links goes into great detail about intake timing sensor codes on the pathfinder and what causes them. The part number you supplied is not a sensor but a solonoid. Nico members get a good discount from the dealers on the site. You can go to their website and look up your part by its part #. It will then list your price versus what you got quoted at the dealer.

Hello, I am new to the forum and joined due to p1140. I've been through all of the threads and just want to clarify a few things I have a 2001 qx4.

First, 1140 is the passenger side sensor.Second, do you have a good picture of where it is located? I've seen the pdf and it is hard for me to translate that into something I can compare to my engine.Third, Is it stupid for someone who hasn't done this before to attempt to fix it myself?

Thanks for all of the information.

The qx4 is a pathfinder. The sensor is located in the metal cover on the front of the engine. It is in the portion of the cover that is raised near the top of the cover. it goes in from the top of that peice. The sensor is black in color and held in by one 10mm bolt. If you can successfully find it it is a simple r&r you can definitly handle.

Thanks for the directions. I pulled the sensor out and it has some oil on it. Is this normal or will this problem cause a problem with my new sensor? Thanks, Andy

no its ok. It is inside the chain area where oil is circulating. You dont want to have oil in the connector area though. If there is oil in this area you need to clean the connector on the harness with some brake clean to then blow it out with air to be sure you dont get any codes.

mission complete. My dealer even sold me the part for the online dealer price of $60. Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it. Take care, Andy
