I just picked up a 2001 Pathfinder LE and it did not come with a keyless entry remote. My question is how can I tell if my car just needs the remote or if I have to purchase the whole setup from either the dealer or just purchase an aftermarket keyless entry system. Thanks.

The LE should have keyless standard equip. You can be sure by getting in your car key in hand and put it in program mode to see if it has it for sure.

Jump in close the drivers door and lock it with the electric door lock switch. Then insert your key in the ignition then pull it out several times in a semi rapid succession [ 1 sec in 1 sec out] After 7 to 15 times of this your hazard lights should flash on the dash. If they do you have keyless.

If you do determine that . pick up some remotes and do it again except as soon as the lights flash turn the key to the on position [dont start the vehile. Then push any remote button. The lights should flash again. that remote is programmed. If you have more remotes simply unlock and lock the door with the electric switch in your drivers window switch panel. then hit any button on the next remote. Now that one is programmed. Jsut repeat that last process for any additional remotes up to 4.

Alright I got my remote from ebay. It does not want to program. The seller told me there are 2 different remotes for the 2001 pathfinders that are not interchangable. Is there any truth behind this so he does not have to send me another remote? Thanks.

yep, one has a crome eyelet for the key ring and the other has a gray eyelet. Were you able to successfully get it into program mode?

Yes it went into program mode just fine. Only thing is I do not have an existing remote to compare it to.

yea when you go into program mode and successfully end the sequince any prior remotes will be erased. In your case if you dont have another remote just go into the mode then cycle the key on and then off and exit the vehicle.

Are you turning the key to the on position before you press the remote button?

Also you had stated you had programmed another remote to it? Did you happen to grab the FCC id # of it to match it up to your new one? that number will be unique to your system.

Try using the remote sitting in the drivers seat. Will it work almost every time there but when you are around 10ft from the vehicle does it only work some of the time? It is possible you have a weak reciever in the smart entrance control module.

When the key is in the on position is the door ajar light on with all the doors closed? Also you can not have the key in the ignition when you lock the doors with the remote. If you infact have the key out of the ignition and all the doors and hood closed and they still wont lock your key in the ignition switch may be shorted making the smart entrance control module think the keys are in the ignition.

i read your post and i am having the same issue. i cannot get my truck to lock by pressing the remote once. It takes like 10 times to get it to lock. The unlock does work better and i think as i get closer to the car, it gets better with remote, but still not great. i tried to buy another remote and the guy who i bought it from said the new one wouldn't accept with my truck. how do you find/fix the module in the car? is that what is wrong? thanks for the help.
