When I try to start my pathfinder this is the process I have to go through: 1. Insert key, 2. foot on brake 3. shifter in park. Note that all appropriate lights on dash are normal. Battery is brand new. 4. Turn key, no crank... just a click. 5. Repeat steps 2-4 6. Place shifter in Neutral and back to Park. Retry step 4. Notice click... no crank 7. pump brake and redo step 6. Car will eventually turn over and start immediately. Something must reset to get this to work. Happens periodically like when stopping to refuel or turning off engine That's happened a few times over a the last six months, but today will not start at all... Any past solutions found?

I went through all kinds of starting issues with my QX4. Since you get a click, and the other symptoms, that's like when the starter motor failed on mine. See my posts on replacing in this thread: topic611114.html

Have someone listen for where your click is coming from. If it's a heavy click coming from the starter solenoid then your starter has either bad brushes or a bad contact ring. Pretty simple.

PS - Try giving the starter a tap-tap with a hand sledge while someone turns the key. If it spins then that clinches it, bad brushes.

Eliminate the starter and battery cables by jumping the starter AT THE STARTER ( solenoid to heavy red cable) . After that eliminate ALL relays contributing to " start " - ie. even antitheft relays etc.
Ya got the aged older car , contacts go wonky.

It's probably just a bad starter. Electrical or not, if other stuff ain't broke then he shouldn't fix it.

Oh , definitely , VStar it DOES appear I'm suggesting to jump and actually replace ALL those relays
I from time to time just gotta re-read , clean up the words a little :lolling: :lolling:
Meant to eliminate starter and it's basic wiring , THEN move on & check/replace relays !!
