My 2001 pathfinder LE's clock started to go dim a few months ago. Then it would return to normal brightness only to go dim the next time I turned on the ignition. Now it seems to be dead most of the time. The other day my blue LED compass that is located above the mirror started to go dim. Has anyone else had this problem. Is it possibly a bad batch of LED clocks or could it be something else. It seems strange that both the clock and the compass have developed the same problem. All replies appreciated.

Sounds like a ground issue. You will need a wiring schematic to track the ground wire(s) down for those 2 items. Check the fuse box as well and make sure the fuses are in good condition.

Did you fix the problem? My 2001 is doing the same thing with the clock, it hasen't started with the compass yet. Anyway, I would love to find out how you made out. I'm about ready to take it in.

This is a fairly common problem with LED digital clocks of Japanese auto makers. Nissan, Toyota, and Subaru all have clock modules that show similar symptoms over a period of time.

If you can remove the clock yourself, you can send it in to be repaired at the following website: http://www.subaru-clock.com . He does a really good job of refurbishing your original unit for a dirt cheap price.
