2001 pathfinder battery replacement

Hi,

Need to replace my 2001 pathfinder battery. Can I just unplug it and replace with new one without all the electronic stuff resetting itself??

Any precautions I need to worry about besides undo the negative cable first?

You can replace it without having to worry any problem.

Yeah. The only thing that would happen is your trip resetting. Your mileage will stay the same. And probably your stereo's clock resetting, if that's equipped.

It will forget your Radio station settings. Write the them down first. The ownersmanual is a good place.

I've never noticed it forgetting the trip odometer settings.

If leave it disconnected overnight, it will forget some other things. But five orten minutes to swap batteries, the only thing I've ever noticed were the radio settings.

Note that Sears DieHard specs two batteries for the '01 PF. Do a littlework to find the bigger one.

Undo the negative cable first. And be a bit careful with positive side -- there'sbeen a thread in the last week or so about breaking something there.

Go for an Optima Yellowtop or Redtop, they're amazing batteries. You'll pay more but they're worth it. You can get them at Costco now.

i second the optima if you plan to put in heavy drain devices put in the yellow top, if not put in the red, maintenance free batteries, if not these then go with interstate

Wow.... 100 month warranty. I've never owned a car anywhere NEAR that long. I just replaced mine last week. Extremely simple. Just swap it and reset your radio stations.

Well, the 100 month warranty is pro-rated, I believe. So if your battery craps out halfway through, you still have to pay for half of a new battery. But half is better than nothing.

Didn't know about the 36-month free replacement, though. Next fall I should just deep-cycle my battery a few times, then take it in for a free one!

if your just replacing the battery and have no heavy loads on it, like a sound system or something, then ya a yellow top is good. but I ate through three yellow tops b4 i got the battery i have now. Theres an company called Xstatic and they make what they call batcaps. they arent liquid acid batterys, their actually a dense gell. I got the batcap 2000, its 2000 cca (cold crank amps) and weighs about 30 to 40 lbs, and will run you about 320 buks. but for me its way worth it.

Finally replaced the battery with a Costco 100 month battery and it works great.

Question: Read somewhere vaseline should be put on terminals to prevent corrosion. But others say not to because vaseline could liquify under intense heat and cause problems.

Do or don't do??

You can go to any auto parts store or even Walmart and pick up a can of battery terminal spray which you spray on the terminals to prevent corrosion. This stuff is much cleaner and easier to apply than Vaseline. I use it on my batteries and I've never had corrosion, the terminals still look like new.

I've got a good sized sound system and have cranked it for hours on end while working on my car and the YellowTop has always come through. They're perfect for sound systems.

I use silicone spray and it's worked well for me.

I've used... nothing!

If I ever notice the vehicle getting hard to start, first thing I do is mix baking soda and water into a paste and rub it on the terminals. Wait five minutes, wash it off. Cleans it right off.

Only had to do this twice in the last 10 years. Though if the sprays mentioned are cheap, I might have to try 'em.

Vaseline will melt on a hot day in the shade. It's hotter than that under thehood.
