I am new to this site. I have been going through the postings and lots of cool info available. But I have a problem with my MAF sensor. Here's how it goes:1. SES light came on 1 day on the way home from work...and couple of days later, it went out. There was no noticable difference in the idling, acceleration, etc.2. Took the car to the dealer who told me it was the MAF sensor (codes P0171 - FUEL SYSTEM TOO LEAN, and P0325 - KNOCK SENSOR, BANK 1. They said it would be $752 + tax to replace. Thanks very much...but no thanks...seeing as the car ran just fine.3. SES would reset itself but once a week on the hwy....it would vome on again, usually when travelling approx 110 Km/h.4. Took the car to a regular service station, confirm the same codes, and had the fuel injectors cleaned.5. Eventually, I got a new MAF...part #22680-2Y001...which, I think is originally designed for Maxima. Installed it no problem, but SES light is on all the time now...even after I disconnected the battery for over an hour.

My question is:1. Can this part be used on the Sentra, and if so...do I have to have the ECU reprogrammed? Does the dealer HAVE to do it?2. I've read that originally there was a problem with the MAF on the 2001 Sentras (part #22680-AD200)...is there a new part number that I would have to get...if not, how do I know if the part I purchase is the original (defective) part, or the new, improved part (if there actually is one)? If there is a better part...do I still have to get the ECU reprogrammed?

Thanks everybody...

1. no it cannot be used and yes the ecu has to be program to work with the MAF

2.I had the same problem in my wifes 2000 SE /PP with the MAF. I bought a new 1 from here http://www.drivewire.com/vehic...#2000 Disconnected my battery changed the MAF connected the battery and it worked perfectly and has been working perfectly for years now.

Just do not get it from the stealer-ship, shop around online. You do not need to reprogram your ECU buy the ECU from these places.

Well, I finally got the part and installed it. This has solved the problem. Car runs perfect now, and no SES light in two weeks. Thanks for clarifying for me.Paul

I would like to thank dmp316 for the fix posted on this board. I too faced exactly same problems on my Nissan Sentra 2001 SE 2.0. SES light comes on usually when travelling at 100-110 KPH on highways. SES would reset after a few cycles as long as I drive within the city limits. Codes were P0171 and P0325. When the SES light came on, I never felt anything abnormal while driving like loss of power or unusual behaviour. I was reluctant to take my 15 years old car to the dealership service and spend thousand plus dollars in repairs. Though my car is 15 years old but has only 148K clicks on it. Unfortunately in the last 3 years I spent lot of money in replacing the start motor, alternator and the exhaust flex pipe. These were pretty straight forward faults and I got those fixed at an independent service facilities. I did bring SES problem to the attention of my independent mechanic for a cure but he could not figure out the root cause of this problem. He suggested changing spark plugs for which I agreed but changing the spark plugs did not fix the problem. He then suggested to add fuel injector cleaner to the fuel tank which I did twice while filling my gas tank without any positive results. Being electronics technician myself I did some research and accidentally bumped into this forum and decided to make an attempt and fix the issue. I could get the replacement mass air flow sensor for under $80 (including $30 shipping) from http://www.partstrain.com/store/details ... 16701.html Removal of old MAF was easy and installing replacement sensor was easy.

Now it’s been more than 4 weeks and SES light does not come on anymore. Thank you for the tip.
